Last August 2019 I had the pleasure of helping a new division of Tripadvisor, led by Lindsay Nelson, to completely rebuild and unify their services.
At Metalab, Jordan Amblin and I we’re tasked with creating immediate shorter term improvements, specifically onboarding, personalization, and saves.
This “softboarding” concept allows users to jump straight into the app without an account or any setup, while offering helpful shortcuts to improve the experience. Because user needs are so diverse when coming into the app (local, travel, flights, you name it) we wanted to let the experience within the app guide the onboarding – similar to how the website allows users to browse without interruptions.
